The Sweet Story
“Sweet Tooth Memories was initially created for the purpose of raising funds for our children, Ryder and Ella, to attend a Christian school. Ryder was diagnosed with autism at a very young age and was having difficulty once he entered junior high in the public school system. By participating in various vendor events selling cookies, brownies and other popular treats, we quickly discovered that the baked goods market is overly saturated and hard to compete in. However, we noticed the lack of traditional, homemade hardtack/rock/glass candy. Upon further research we discovered that the demand for homemade hardtack candy is very high and unfulfilled, especially in Western PA where the creation of the candy itself during family gatherings used to be an honored, fun tradition. Unfortunately, this practice has faded away with each passing generation. As a little girl, I, Renee made hardtack with my grandmother and thus, Sweet Tooth Memories, LLC was born.
In August 2021, we decided to risk the meager savings we had and legalized the business with the help of Start-Up Allegheny Mentor Matt Reckner, St. Francis business University, and Penn State Law legal aid department. Currently we attend vendor shows all over PA, WV, OH, MD, and VA but are looking to expand all over the United States. We have shipped our products to 37 states to date and continue documenting how far the candy can go. In 2025, we will be participating in events in Kentucky, New Jersey and possibly Florida. Our products will also be marketed in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and North Carolina by Moonshiner Brian Key of LPR Moonshine. We cannot wait to see how successful he will be. His Ocean Water candy has been an amazing addition to our candy line.
Our goal is to keep growing until we can offer various scholarships and financial aid to other Christian families trying to send their children to a private educational facility. But we won’t stop there; We want to support local organizations with fees, dues, equipment, and other props needed to ethically and properly nurture generations to come in various fields of expertise, education, and athletics. Some organizations we have already assisted include Relay for Life, Fay West Wolverines traveling baseball league, Turkeyfoot Cheerleadng, Laurel Arts Dance, numerous community/personal fundraises for citizens in need, volunteer fire departments, and many more.
In 2021, we experimented, created and launched a line of hardtack candy that is created with the use of different alcohols and liquors. Surprisingly, the alcohol gives the candy an enhanced flavor like the very popular Mallo Cup, which uses chocolate liquor. And like Mallo Cups, beer battered fish and coconut rum cake, alcohol infused hardtack is safe for all ages to eat with an ABV of less than .05%. This line of candy has become very popular quickly and has even been named “boozy” candy by our Morgantown, WV clientele. The name has ironically stuck from state to state and show to show. Although the alcohol content is minimal, the flavor difference is noticeable, favored, and strongly preferred compared to our regular line of hardtack. A favorite part of this whole adventure is seeing the surprise and satisfaction on our customers’ faces as soon as the candy touches their tongues and taste buds. Over 80% of those who try our candy end up buying the product. And 90% of those, become repeat customers leading to the creation of the Sweet Tooth Memories Loyalty program in August of 2024. With the program customers earn free candy at every show we mutually attend.
In late 2023, we began partnering with multiple moonshiners and influencers across the Appalachian region to test the quality of our products. Needless to say, the experiment has been a success and we have welcomed a lot of people into our lives that are now a second family to all of us. Some of our new family members have actually won the award and are called Master Distillers as seen on Discovery TV. How cool is that? We love the journey we are on and all the new people and partners we meet along the way. Each time we, along with partners, introduce a new, unique flavor to the Sweet Tooth Memories’ product line we are reminded just how far we have come and how blessed we truly are to be doing something no one has ever done before.
In the end, we cannot wait to give back to our community and families in need. That is our ultimate goal and we know God will bring it to fruition. Look at what he has already done! We firmly believe in Luke 6:38, which says “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”
